How to preview a Page, Product, or Category

You can view a page, product, or category you are working on without adding it to a storefront menu.

You can find the URL by going to the SEO/LAYOUT tab for that item and copying the URL shown. Then in your browser window you will add that URL after your website name.

For example:

- if a page URL was showing in your admin as /contact-us
You would enter yourwebsitename.com/contact-us in a browser to view the page.

If your website is not a .com, you would enter the appropriate domain suffix.

Instructions for Savi2 setup from OLD platform

There are many cool new features, but your first goal is making your new site identical to your old site with products, menus, and categories so you can go live with Savi2. Just by switching to Savi2 you'll increase customer experience and sales so by keeping things simple initially you'll avoid overloading yourself with new organization ideas and features to play with.

FIRST STEPS: 99% of your setup (must do before testing storefront)

Even though we were able to import your old website content into your new website on Savi2, there are features you need to adjust or reset on Savi2 because we’ve rebuilt how you manage those features and how they work in the storefront. Start with the items in this checklist. You can read the help section below for more instructions.
  1. Update Contact Information ("Account" in top left corner)
  2. Categories and Pages:
    1. Our data transfers pulls all categories and pages, so if you had blank or old forgotten inactive categories you should delete them.
    2. Make sure the correct ones are active.
  3. Menus: make sure correct items in left box and top menu
    1. Start with Left Box 1 (currently categories)
    2. Then Main Navigation Header (top menu)
      1. Add HOME to this menu if you want a link to home page
    3. Delete "Brands" menu if empty (it was imported only because it existed on old site)
    4. If your menu show items that do not appear in storefront it's because their inactive
  4. Reset Payment and Shipping Methods
  5. Reset coupons if you had them before
  6. Design
    1. Choose Design Template:
    2. Choose page layout for home page (featured, extra…)

***** OVERVIEW AND INSTRUCTIONS ON SOME OF THE NEW FEATURES *****

-- PRODUCTS --

Product Description: The biggest change to this section was we’ve removed some icons in the product description Text Editor. We juggled with this for a long time and decided to strip out some of the text because we know it will help stores sell more products. The reason people began preferring Facebook over MySpace was MySpace allowed members to control the design of their profiles, and overtime the MySpace pages were so busy and hard to read that users began preferring the clean, easy to read format, of Facebook. Our other deciding factor was looking at all major eCommerce stores like Amazon, Borders, Barnes & Nobles, etc. They all have standardized font in the product descriptions, which make it easier to read while scrolling through products.

First steps in marketing your online business

We've noticed a few posts on the Create-A-Book Facebook Fan Page were related to learning "how to market my website." So to answer these questions effectively we've created a "Starter Kit" on how to gain traffic and increase sales for your website.

There are infinite topics in this category, so this will only scratch the surface on a few that are FREE and simple to follow with a little effort on your part. Our goal is to point you in the right direction and provide resources to help you continue your education.

The Internet is a tremendous sales channel and the focus of this newsletter; however, it's important to remember that "on location" selling can be very profitable, not to mention a great way to promote your website. If you joined Create-A-Book to supplement your income, it's crucial you focus equal time learning how to master both online and offline sales and marketing. To learn more about "on-location sales" and "Give-A-Book" programs, please review the training manual.
The journey to your success starts with mindset, so we'll start there.

    RULE #1: Sharpen the Saw
If you're familiar with 7 habits of highly effective people then you'll know why this is step 1. It's easy to invest money in a business, but few people take the time to invest in themselves to improve their business. You can spend 10 hours cutting down a tree with a dull blade, but if you take the time to sharpen the blade you'll significantly reduce the time and effort required to finish the job.

I challenge you to spend 30 minutes a day educating yourself through blogs, books, forums, and anything you can get your hands on. Be a sponge! You can Google terms like "Using Facebook for business, online marketing, internet marketing, Social Media Optimization, Improve web traffic, improve online sales, Search Engine Optimization, etc..." The list is endless, so I suggest sticking to one topic for a month or two, or until you've got a good handle on it, and then move to another topic.
After one year, you'll have 182.5 hours of knowledge under your belt. If 30 minutes a day is too difficult to fit into your schedule, start with 15 minutes a day (that's still over 91 hours!!!)

"Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still."
    ~ Chinese Proverb

It's important to remember that simply "reading" is not the solution. You have to learn, do, learn, do... and repeat till you see results. There's a reason your school textbooks ended each chapter with exercises, so put your newly acquired knowledge to use. The results will not happen overnight, but don't give up and you will see a difference.

Most importantly, the Internet is forever changing, so after you master a technique keep in mind you should revisit the latest tips for that technique often.

RULE #2: Give a little elbow grease
It's no accident the first two rules deal with work ethic, and the quote says it all. The Internet is the ultimate "Catch 22" as it opened the door to an endless supply of customers, while giving everyone the impression they can work less and earn more. The common misconception about having a website is "if you build it they will come." It might have worked with Kevin Costner in "Field of Dreams", but I guarantee for your website it will not. In terms of work required, an Internet business is no different than a traditional business, minus the drive to work. You understand work ethic, so I'm going to illustrate an example to make the point:

"All the so-called "secrets of success" will not work unless you do."
    ~Author Unknown

If you opened a start-up sandwich shop (a traditional brick & mortar business) that was not a franchise chain (no brand awareness or advertising) how would you attract customers in the front door? Sure, you've got the best sandwich in town, but until you've proven that to enough customers you have to work extra hard to make sure people remember you at lunchtime. The worst thing you could possibly do is not show up to unlock the front doors.

What if it was 11:30 am and the store was empty? Would you lock the doors and go home, or stand in the street waiving down cars? With a traditional brick & mortar you have higher startup costs as well as fixed costs, like your lease, so the constant pressure to fill the seats will stretch your comfort zones.
Now think back to your own personal work ethic since joining Create-A-Book. Have you treated this business with the same tenacity and work ethic as if you invested $100,000 to get started? How many days have you simply "not opened the doors?"

The best thing you can do is create a work schedule and stick to it. Include your family in the planning, as you'll need their support. Whether it's an hour a day, an hour a week, 8 hours on the weekend, or 8 hours a day... create your plan and stick to it. Overtime, your sales will gain momentum and you won't have to work everyday to make money everyday. It just takes a little sweat equity to get there.
See rule #7 to learn about the resources on our blog.

RULE #3: Don't focus on Search Engines... not yet!
Disclaimer: My explanations are specific to a Create-A-Book business, and more specifically to someone with a relatively new website (less than 5 years) and with a limited budget. First, some common definitions from Wikipedia:
The question I hear most often is "how do I get to page one on the search engines." While that should be a goal, it should not be your short-term goal and here's why:
    * It can take years to get there in a highly competitive market
    * Most SEO companies that get results charge at least $1,500 to start.

I'm not recommending you ignore SEO. After all, search engine traffic can bring high revenues. I just wouldn't recommend it as a first priority when you can see faster results with social media like Facebook...without having to spend money.

There are many variables that determine who Search Engines list first. For example: How long the site and domain has been active and how many people visit the site. That being said, if your website is new you're already facing an uphill by focusing your efforts on SEO alone. The best thing you can do is spend the first 6 - 12 months proving to search engines your site has valuable content based on the traffic you generated through your own efforts. Doing this will make your SEO investment (time or money) much easier down the road.

So how do you generate your own traffic? The best advice is treat your website the same you would a flyer. If you printed flyers, you're goal would be to hand them out to as many people as you can. If you don't hand out the flyer, nobody will know they exist. Focus on sharing it with as many people as you can, as often as you can, which we'll explain below.

RULE #4: Social Media is better than Search Engines!
This topic is highly debated, and you can find information that supports both sides, so it's important to remember my advice is based on helping you gain the fastest results without spending a small fortune.

"We recently switched our focus from PPC ads to increasing
our Facebook Fans and building relationships with them.
Within 2 months we're noticing a big difference in sales
... and the best part is it's FREE!"
    - Sue Nightengale, Create-A-Book Dealer | View Sue's fan page

There are many Social Media networks like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to name a few, though I'm going to focus on Facebook as they've locked down the number one spot with close to 300 million users. Aside from the fun and social aspect of connecting with Friends and family, Facebook allows anyone to create a FREE Fan Page, which is a profile page to promote your business on Facebook and allows people to become fans.

How does this help you in business? To illustrate, assume your Fan Page is a storefront you've leased in a mall. And this mall has close to 300 million visitors walk through it every day. That means there are millions of people walking in or around your storefront everyday. All you have to do is bring them to your store, win their trust.

Even better, people who like your page can become "Fans" which means they follow your posts, which means they'll receive a post on their own page when you post to yours, which equates to them walking in your store and providing their contact information to receive updates on news, promotions and coupons. Are you starting to understand the potential? Fans equal your current or future customer base!

You're still curious why I suggest this is currently better for you than PPC advertising, or what page your site appears in the search engines, aside from the obvious that Social Media is free?
Let's first look at why people pay for SEO or PPC, because search engines have customers searching for your product and you want your website and products in front of those people. If search engines lost the traffic, the value of their PPC or your SEO efforts would disappear.
Next consider the type of visitor you're gaining from search engines. When someone clicks your link or ad they're essentially a cold lead. You haven't established trust or a relationship so they're more inclined to shop for price.

Comparing that to Facebook, where your Fans have already made it known they like you and your products. Where do you think you'll see the highest return on your time? Simple, people prefer to buy from people they know and trust.

In the next rule we'll focus on how to increase your fan base, but first...if you're new to Facebook, go to www.Facebook.com and SignUp for a free account. Once you've setup your profile, you can create your fan page. How to create a fan page

RULE #5: How to increase your Customer Base
Before taking the first step with Social Media to create new relationships, you should first start with your existing network and local community. Do your friends and family know you've opened a new business? If you belong to organizations, do those members know about your business? If you're like me with aggressive goals, take it a step farther and reach out to the "Connectors" in your network. Ask them for help spreading the word, and to introduce you to individuals and organizations that might like these products.

One of the MOST EFFECTIVE things you can do right now if you haven't done so already, is include your website link, and maybe a tagline in the signature in your email. This way you're making a passive impression (reminder) with every email. If you really want to get noticed, you can add a logo as well.
Since we're focused today on your online network, we'll move on. However, know there are many more things you can do to saturate your local community and surrounding areas.

There are many great techniques to building an online network, so I'm covering the basics and included a few great resource links to help you get started. If you get exciting after reading the resource links, and want to keep learning to get ahead, you can Google the article headlines and find a ton more!

Online Etiquette - it's no different than offline!
    • Be genuine and sincere
    • Don't come firing out the gate with a sales pitch
    • Don't send or post what you wouldn't want to read or receive
    • Show an interest in other people, and participate in conversations
    • Don't use your posts only to spam or sell - be personal, and make it fun!
    • A timeless resource: How to win friends and influence people
Ways to build your online network:
If you're new to Facebook, or haven't yet grown your friends list on your personal profile you should start there. Once you've done the following you can invite them to your fan page (Etiquette rules still apply). Warning: You will not get (or keep) many followers if you simple spam with your own submissions!

    Find your old connections:
    • It's simple, engage and interact with others
    • Be a friend and you'll get more friends.
    • How to find your friends and connections
    • Search for groups and organizations you've belonged to, past and present.

    With Twitter:

    RULE #6:
    Stay connected, often!
I mentioned in the beginning of Rule #4 that adding your website and a tagline in the signature of your email was one of the easiest things you can do to increase your exposure with every email. There are hundreds of simple things that are just as simple and effective when it comes to email marketing.
Not only is email marketing effective, it's extremely interesting because we send emails every day and it's fun learning how the tiniest adjustments can drastically improve your sales.

I've included a link to a gold mine of a resource on this topic. I'd recommend subscribing to their newsletters and visiting their site at least once a month for an hour or two. I'd also suggest trying what you learn, as soon as you learn it. These guys have the best newsletters, so I'd highly recommend subscribing.

There are many services you can use to manage your contacts and send professional emails. If you're brand new, it's probably not yet necessary. However, when your contacts begin to grow, it will make your life much easier, and your business more effective as you can track the success of each campaign. We use Aweber because it has a tremendous amount of features, and they've made it simple.
Their blog is the "Gold Mind" I was referring to. They "Walk the Walk" on providing good content and using their emails effectively. http://www.aweber.com/blog

RULE #7: How navigate the SaviSites blog
In June we will be launching the new SaviSites website, which includes a dynamic Help section that will make it easier to find what your looking for. For the time being, we've pointed our website to our blog www.SaviSites.com, which is a vast collection of resources and tips to build your CAB business and improve your website.

Note: the search bar in the top left should be your first line of defense!
Search Bar: you can search a topic/keyword to find related content
Labels: Each post is labeled, so these will show all posts matching that label
Fantastic Resources: When I find a great blog or resource link, I add it here
Blog Archive: view past post titles
    Video tutorials: under Important Links
Free Tools for your website: list of sites with free graphics & tools you can use
Website of the Week: see the latest designs and strategies to improve your site

    More to come...
It's important to remember you can read this article straight through, but don't attempt each new task all in the same day. Take your time and have fun!

We'd like to hear from you, so if you have suggestions or requests for future topics you can send them to support@savisites.com

    $500 Mothers Day Challenge

Would an extra $500 help this Mother's Day?

Last week marked the launch of the new www.CreateABook.com, and our new social forum on at www.Facebook.com/CABInc. To celebrate the grand opening of both, we're throwing a $500 Mothers Day Challenge, see details below!!!

Create-A-Book's strength lay in the hands of our family of independent dealers, and our job is to provide you with the not only the best products, but also the best training and tools. That's why our new goal in 2010 is updating the training manual with a bigger emphasis on the internet, both as a sales channel and a communication platform. Our first step was creating a social forum
where you can post and share ideas with other dealers around the world www.Facebook.com/CABInc

If you're like most people, you've heard of Facebook but don't have a clue how to use it for business. We aim to change that, and the first step is helping you become comfortable with it. We encourage everyone to take a moment to join our Facebook Fan Page to stay current on news from the home office, but more importantly to engage in conversations with other dealers. If you don't currently have a Facebook account, it's free to join and takes only a few minutes.

To jump start the sharing of ideas and open dialog between dealers, we created a contest on our Fan Page to see who can post the best idea on how to market your Mother's Day Personalized Storybook. You can learn more at www.Facebook.com/CABInc, but the concept is simple...post your ideas. Whether it's a 5 word post, or 5 paragraphs, the exercise is aimed to increase your comfort level on Facebook

Worst case scenario, you'll make great contacts and end up with many great ideas to increase your sales this Mother's Day season. The best case scenario is you do the same and win $500!

See you on Facebook, and good luck!

We closed 2009 with a website solution that ways light years ahead of the version launched Oct 2008, and this year will be even better as we wrap up the last of the major changes and start working on the fun and creative changes. Please take a moment to review the updates below.

    1. Accepting EMAIL invite for future CAB updates (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
    2. New images for CAB Teddy Bear (holding book)
    3. Save Money on This Order - typo fixed
    4. Personalized Music
    5. Propay
    6. New websites for CAB and SaviSites
    7. Renewals (eBooks and Memberships)

    ==============================================
    ==============================================

    1. Accepting EMAIL invite:

As we streamline our internal systems, we realized it's time to say goodbye to the EXCEL spreadsheet we've used to manage newsletter emails. This new system makes it easier for you to update your email address on file, or change your subscription preferences.

Use the form below to join our newsletter

    2. New images for CAB Teddy Bear

The current Teddy Bear used to illustrate the personalized fields was scanned from a brochure. Create-A-Book lost the original artwork files in the move west, so we made the best with what was available. During the holidays we had our designers create an updated image, and then created 4 additional banners using this bear that you can apply to your website.

All Create-A-Book dealers are allowed to use the new images on your website or other marketing materials. We've uploaded the banners and bear images into our Photobucket.com account. There are 4 banner images, and a "bear-only" images available in 2 sizes and 3 colors. On photobucket, you can view all images available, download the ones you like, or use the "Direct Link" URL to post images on your website without having to download the images to your computer and then upload them to your website.

    To download these images:
    1. Click the first link below, find image you like and click on image to "V'ew Large"
    2. Mouse-over the large image and a menu will appear across the top, click "Download"

Click HERE to view all images (to download or find "Direct Link" LINKS to use new images:

Click HERE to VIEW Examples of all 4 Banners:

    3. Save Money on this Order:

Your page came with a website using this page title, to explain the "club member" registration. This page is fully editable, except for the big graphic which can only be deleted. We realized there was a typo on this graphic, which we've now fixed and made available to you. Fix your page in less than 2 minutes following links below

    Quick video tutorial:

URL link you'll use to replace the current image:
    http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/CreateABook/ClubDiscounts-UpdatedDec2009.gif

    4. Personalized Music

The customer interface for the music layout and application will drastically change over the next couple months. Remember we're in BETA launch, so we appreciate everyone's feedback and patience during this transformation. We're putting a lot of though into the strategic marketability for the MP3 downloads, as we look for ways to make this an exciting and profitable new revenue stream. For example, the email sent to customers to download their music will be moving to a web based page that will allow for designs like "Gift eCards" where customers can have a personalized message appear above the "Download Music" buttons. As we continue to make changes during our BETA test phase, make sure you're taking advantage of the opportunity offer these products without any additional licensing or website fee's!

    5. Propay Merchant Services

The upcoming launch of the Propay integration will be a day for celebration like NO other! For those of you not familiar with Propay you can learn more about it here. We've been working on the integration for over a year and spent close to $10,000 trying to create a solution that prevents each user from needing their own SSL certificate. An SSL certificate secures and encrypts the data on a specific page or website.

Why all this time and money for a feature that will be given to all as an update, and not an "Add-On" module? We believe it's a valuable option, and we're always searching for ways to keep your costs down. Sadly, at the end of 2009 we decided a "single SSL" just wasn't going to work, so we had to jump back to square one. The good news is the standard integration is underway and should be test ready in the next 30 days. If you've already signed up for Propay, we'll send information regarding the specific SSL certificate needed. Do NOT purchase an SSL without talking to us first, as there are different types and it must be the right one.

    6. New websites for CAB and SaviSites

Last but not least, stay tuned for the new websites for Create-A-Book.com and SaviSites.com. The SaviSites website will also include our new ordering system that will allow you post tickets, and manage your "Add-Ons" and billing information.

    7. Renewals (eBooks and Annual Membership)

While working on our new Customer and Order management system, we delayed sending out the renewal notices for dealers who either purchased their website or eBooks in December and January. If you purchased your website or eBook module during that time period, including February of 2009, we'll be sending a notice this weekend. .

If you think these updates are great, wait till you see what's planned for the 2nd quarter :)
